The Richard Walden Grape is a real show stopper. It
is a hybrid of Flame x ES 5-17. This grape has clusters bigger than Alden.
It tends to overcrop as well, but when well thinned, it is an awsome table grape
with the flavor of Flame Seedless. There are a few hollow seed traces,
but they are very soft. Due to the wet summer, I have seen a bit of botrytis
on a cluster or two, but overall, it is pretty disease free. Maturity season
is a bit late for the Puget Sound, but Western Oregon should be about perfect.
Fruit ripens late here, but it does. Quite resistant to mildew and botrytis
as well and quite productive. Vigor, on a scale of one to ten would be about
7. One of the parents was Elmer's 5-17, so it is at least hardier than most
pure vinifera types.I think it has a superior, flame-like flavor. The
vine does tend to over crop as the clusters are fairly large and abundant.

next to it.
Picture 2: Richard Walden seedless again .. It ripens fairly
late up here, but is quite resistant to botrytis. The clusters on a mature vine
can reach a foot long. Mine in the photo has berries about Schuyler size
and the photo cluster is about 8 inches long. Not quite as big as Concord
but better than Flame size
